People of Birmingham and surrounding areas, where were you last Thursday 4th November? I can tell you this much, you weren’t in the HMV Institute witnessing the dazzling Foxy Shazam. Unbelievable but sadly true. In a venue that was optimistically a quarter full, Foxy Shazam put on one the best performances that I have seen…
As my friends and regular visitors to my personal website (mysweetshadow.co.uk) know, I am something of a Bowling For Soup hardcore fan. So, when they announced that their latest UK tour was kicking off in my new place of residence Cambridge at the Corn Exchange, it was pretty much guaranteed I was going to be…
[ad] This show was the second show of the day for Fozzy, having played a matinee show earlier in the day with some different support bands. I was somewhat late arriving in the venue nearly an hour after the doors due to interviewing Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho (that interview can be read in a mega…
“We are bringing death metal into the fine halls of culture” announced Mikael Akerfeldt at one point during the second half of tonight’s performance. He was not wrong. Looking around the almost sold out Royal Albert Hall in the middle of a ten minute long Death Metal epic was a very surreal experience. I’m sure…
It was RockSins first time at the Boiler Room in Guildford. A small pub sized venue with a great atmosphere, a shame it wasn’t packed out because it was a great night for all, some great bands that youll see later on RockSins! But the purpose of the night for us was the great EastStrikeWest, and…
So first up let me say this gig was so badly organised we felt sorry for the bands. There was some mix up along the way which left the bands pretty pissed off so we missed out on an interview with Skindred, BUT now that’s out the way I wanna get on with the live review,…
Fresh from my interview with Katatonia frontman Jonas Renkse (coming soon exclusively here on rocksins.com) in the side bar in the Garage that I never knew existed, I got to slip into the main room shortly before doors, so got a drink and got myself an excellent position for the opening band, Long Distance Calling…
Destrophy, have you heard of them? Don’t worry, you sure as fuck will. These four architects of metal hail from Iowa and whatever the hell they put in the water there, the rest of world could definitely use a glass or two. From start to finish the show was balls to the wall brutality mixed…
My most recent live encounter with Lostprophets at their Q Awards gig at The Forum in Kentish Town in October was for me, probably the worst live experience I have had in 7 years of seeing the Welsh 6 piece live, mainly due to the awful sound quality of the venue (nothing much wrong with…
I’ve been waiting to see Insomnium since I discovered their album “Above The Weeping World” when it was first released in early 2005, so nearly 5 years later I got the chance as they were supporting Swallow The Sun at The Underworld. This gig marked another first, as it was the first gig I ever…
Kittie at Camden Underworld, London – 23/01/2010 Support – Forever Never, Malefice, It Dies Today So after a slightly rocky start to my Saturday (I blame the trains), Myself and Darren were finally on our way to the Underworld, Camden, London to check out long time female metallers Kittie, supported by Forever Never, Malefice and…
I am willing to bet all of us have at least one story that involves drinking copious amounts of alcohol and comedic revelry. Out of these moments grand ideas are formulated and often brought to life only to be laughed upon and thrown back into the pit of stupidity. That is until one day someone…
